WIN Periods – “What I Need”

What you need, when you need it…

WIN stands for What I Need, and it gives each student dedicated time for individualized support or enrichment based on their current learning needs.

During WIN, students may:

Receive Speech, OT, PT, or Counseling services

Engage in enrichment programs such as Robotics, Photography, or DJing

Work in small intervention groups to strengthen Math or ELA skills

Participate in advanced or AI-supported projects

WIN groups change throughout the year based on data, growth, and teacher observation, ensuring that every student always gets what they need, when they need it.

Elective Program

Empowering students to explore interests and develop new talents…

MSI’s elective program empowers students to explore interests and develop new talents.

Students take two electives each year—one from September to January and another from February to June.

Choices include:

🎬 Media & Editing Learn how to create videos like a pro! Explore filming, editing, sound effects, and storytelling as you make your own short films, news clips, or social media-style videos.

🍳 Culinary Arts– Get hands-on in the kitchen! Learn cooking skills, kitchen safety, and how to prepare tasty meals and snacks—all while understanding nutrition and teamwork.

💰 Financial Literacy-Discover how money works! From budgeting and saving to understanding banks and smart shopping, this class helps you build real-world money skills for the future.

Sports Exploration
Try out a variety of sports and movement activities! Learn teamwork, fitness, rules, and strategies through games like soccer, basketball, and more.

🎵 Music Technology
Mix beats, make music, and explore sound design! Use digital tools such as SoundTrap to create your own music tracks while learning about rhythm, melody, and music production.

♟️ Chess
Chess class -Sharpen your brain with strategy! Whether you’re new or experienced, chess class teaches you how to think ahead, solve problems, and enjoy friendly competition.  Partnered with ABChess students to prepare for local and national tournaments.

Bringing tech and arts together every 10 weeks…

Every 10 weeks, students rotate through immersive Specialty Courses that bring technology and the arts together.

 After-School Enrichment (FIAO Partnership)

MSI partners with FIAO to provide a vibrant after-school program that blends athletics, creativity, and leadership.

Innovation Days

School-wide, project-based experiences…

At least four times per year, MSI hosts Innovation Days—school-wide, project-based experiences where students participate in Design Thinking Sprints.

During these days, students collaborate in teams to design solutions using robotics, coding, and engineering to make a positive impact on the community.
They research, build, and prototype ideas that merge technology with social good—living our values of innovation and equity in action.

Passion Projects

Celebrating innovation, creativity, and community impact…

Passion Projects empower students to take ownership of their learning while celebrating innovation, creativity, and community impact.

Beginning in January/February, students will embark on Passion Projects—cross-disciplinary experiences created in partnership with the BEAM Center.

Students will choose topics that inspire them and work in groups guided by teachers and mentors. Using the Project-Based Learning (PBL) model, they will:

Present their final projects to families and community members during our MSI Exhibition Showcase

Research and design projects that connect to real-world challenges

Apply knowledge from multiple subjects (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and the Arts)

Build prototypes, conduct experiments, or design creative solutions
